Nivea Lip Butter - Caramel Cream

Monday, 15 October 2012

I found this in Superdrug last week while I was looking for a new lip balm.  I stumbled across this Nivea Lip Butter, and I have to say, I've honestly never seen them before! It comes in three scents - Original, Raspberry Rose and Caramel Cream.  I didn't smell the 'original' one because I quite like scented lip balms.  Raspberry Rose is gorgeous and sweetly fruity, but I was drawn to the Caramel Cream one because it smells exactly like Butterkist toffee popcorn.  It's amazing, I just sit and smell it.

Xen-Tan Dark Lotion

Hello Lovelies!

This is my second Xen-Tan post, my first which you can read here - which is all about the Deep Bronze Luxe.  I completely used two of the Deep Bronze Luxe tubes before I decided to try a different type.  As this is from the dark colour range as opposed to Deep Bronze Luxe which is from the medium colour range.

Thou Has Drank Alcohol, Thou Must Suffer The Hangover...NOT!

Hello Lovelies!

This is hopefully going to be a quick and informative post.  And something I'm sure it will help some people out and ease the suffering from the dreaded hangover.  Now many people do say, "self inflicted wounds" and all of that, but why suffer when you don't need to?

This is something that kind of goes around, low key as a lot of nurses don't want the secret given away - or they themselves don't know!  So I'm actually quite lucky to be privy to this information!

Anyway, lets start at the beginning, with a quick explanation of what alcohol does to your system and what causes the horrendous hangover feeling.  Alcohol is an irritant for your whole system.  It's basically poison.  And with the irritation caused in your stomach it can cause cramps, nausea and vomiting.  Alcohol also as a major dehydration affect on the body, which is where most of the problem comes from the next day - such as feeling woozy or having a thumping headache.  This dehydration affects your skin too, have you ever woke up after a night out with massive dark circles under your eyes that no amount of sleeping all day will shift?; or you wakeup and your skin looks dull and you've developed spots? That's the effects from the alcohol.  It basically makes it through your whole system damaging parts of it along the way.  I wont go down the route of long term effects or liver disease or heart disease in this post - that's a bit too serious for this post, and I'll be here all day, although it is very important to know.

Health Myth No. 1 - Thou Must Drink 2 Litres of Water a Day

Sunday, 26 August 2012

Hello Lovelies!

Having always been a bit obsessed with beauty, I've been an avid reader of magazines, and more recently in my life, blogs.  I since then I have obviously started my own.  I wanted to write about something that bugs the life right out of me though.  And that is the "These things are what you should do to be beautiful, blah blah blah" magazine "facts" and these things are also I have noticed, been in blog posts.  I myself believed these things when I was younger, but having studied nursing at university, and done some proper research on these matters for a variety of reasons, such as needing to know for assignments or just genuine interest, a lot of what you're reading is false information!

I thought I would start with the 'you must drink 2 litres of water a day' "fact".  This is 100% completely and utterly wrong.  Think for a moment if you will, that it is one of the weeks you have decided that you're going to be completely healthy.  So out goes the fizzy drinks, tea, coffee etc., and you tell yourself, you WILL drink your "recommended" two litres of water a day.  But it hits about mid-afternoon, and the thought of forcing yourself to drink more water literally makes you gag.  Every time you move your stomach turns over and makes that god awful sloshing sound as all the water you have drank shifts.  And completely on the other hand, you may be so thirsty because you've already drank your allowance.

This is because the amount of water your body requires is affected by a multitude of factors.  Depending on any pre-existing medical conditions and something as simple as height, can affect the amount of water you're required to drink.  Also, environmental temperatures and exercise are huge factors in determining the amount of water you should drink, or what your body needs.

Xen-Tan Deep Bronze Luxe

Thursday, 14 June 2012

Hello lovelies!

I have a confession, I'm really really pale.  As in, I could probably give Snow White a run for her money!  So usually I always have some form of fake tan on, which normally is to just make me a healthier colour. I don't do the whole tanned within an inch of my life/orange very obvious fake tan, although I have had my unlucky moments in the past where I have gone a bit overboard.  Haven't we all?

Anyway, I had heard a lot of good things about xen-tan in the beauty blogging stratosphere, so I decided to do a bit of my own research.  I hopped over to their website and got down to some reading.

One of the first things I read was that the tan has OLIVE undertones, which is absolutely brilliant as it's pretty impossible to look orange.  With olive undertones there is a richness to it, that could be a genuine tan.  The fault of a lot of other tans is that they are bronze based, which is basically the same as if you use too much bronzer - you will look orange.  So that was a positive right away.
