Grand Central Station
On top of the Rockefeller
Empire State Building

Hello Lovelies!

It's been a while since I've got a blog post up but, life happens. I've been pretty busy, then I was off on holiday to NYC.  It was amazing!  This trip was part of my 21st birthday present (which was in February), and I absolutely shopped til' I dropped; almost literally.  We spent every day pounding the busy pavements from 9am-6pm.  So by the end of the day my mum and I would be sitting with our feet in the bath filled with cold water to relieve the aches and pains.  I think we were the only people sleeping early in the city that never sleeps...not really how I had imagined spending my New York nights!  In between all of the shopping we did manage the odd "touristy" thing.

We went up the Rockefeller and got an amazing view of the city.  I've been up the Empire State Building before when I was 11, but the view was better on Rockefeller - something to consider if you're going to visit the city yourself.  We went on a boat ride which took us right down  the Hudson river (with the Manhattan on one side and New Jersey on the other); right round the bottom past Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty; and up the East river under the bridges.  I couldn't help but think about the part of the Sex and The City movie when Steve and Miranda meet on the Brooklyn bridge when we were going under it.  The commentator guide was brilliant, he was pointing out the buildings of Wall Street that made up Gotham City in Batman, and the Daily News building that becomes the Daily Planet in Superman in Midtown...my inner (blaringly obvious) superhero geek loved it!  We went to Central Park Zoo, which was okay, it's pretty small so there's not a lot to see.  I did love the Red Pandas though - they're so cute!

We also went to the 9/11 memorial at Ground Zero.  It was eerie, and emotionally overwhelming.  We didn't stay for long.  One of my favourite things we done was go and see a Broadway show.  We went to see Cinderella, which was absolutely amazing - so magical.  Normally in the UK (don't know about anywhere else) Cinderella tends to be a pantomime at Christmas time, and the whole show is a bit of a parody with silly characters etc. but I can't even begin to explain how amazing it is as an actual show.  The costume changes were unbelievable, the sets and the story.  I'd go and see it again in a heartbeat.  Although, I'd love to see every show going on Broadway!  Everything was squished into 5days!  Oh, I remember one last super important thing.  If you go to NY you HAVE to get a cupcake from the Magnolia Bakery.  They are without a doubt the best cupcakes I've ever had in my entire 21 and a bit - years of life.  We also tried Crumbs cupcakes, they were huge (like bigger than a muffin in the UK) but not as nice.  Something that proves size doesn't always matter ;)

We done so much more, and most of it was shopping or going to "famous" shops.  We went to Tiffany's and drooled over the diamonds, and on the Monday we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art - and it was closed! Gutted.  That can just move on to the list for next time.  There's so much to do in NY I'd definitely say it's somewhere you'd need to go a few times to see everything. Although, you'd probably think 'why not just go for two weeks and do more?' I was there for 5 days and I've barely managed to stay awake since I've got home! I'm going to do a couple of posts with what I bought when I was away.  I'm splitting it into beauty items and then clothes/miscellaneous otherwise the post would be gigantinormous (rather like this one, sorry.  Ramble, ramble).
