Going For Gold - Olympics Inspired Tutorial

Tuesday 31 July 2012

Hello Lovelies!

Most of the world is buzzing about the Olympics, and it inspired me to do a little hair and makeup tutorial.   I've seen a couple of team GB tutorials on youtube, but I thought I would keep it quite general, so anyone any where would be able to get something from it! Anyway, hope you enjoy x

What I'm wearing - trip to the transport museum

Sunday 29 July 2012

Hello Lovelies!

On Wednesday this week it was sunny! I thought I'd start with that, seeing as the sunny days in Scotland this year have been few and far between.  Anyway my Mum, Dad and I ended up going to the Glasgow Transport Museum, just for something to do so we weren't sat in the house on such a lovely day.  So I thought I'd show you what I wore in terms of clothes and makeup :)

Boots Sleep Rollers

Saturday 28 July 2012

Hello Lovelies!

Sleep rollers have been the talk of the blogger town for a while now, but I though I'd give a little post on my experience with them.  I purchased the boots one, as at the time these were most easily accessible to me.  I bought the red ones which are the large ones, they also have blue medium ones but I felt that they wouldn't give me the look I wanted.

What appealed to me when buying these was the whole "effortless" hair thing, because as much as I can spend ages doing my makeup, I get pretty bored doing my hair sometimes!  When putting them in my hair I run my straighteners through each section so that it sets a little easier once it cools.  And so that they don't come loose I give them a little wiggle so the velcro can attach to the roots of my hair.
Rollers just put in before bed (and no makeup eek!)

Yankee Candle - Strawberry Buttercream

Friday 27 July 2012

Hello Lovelies!

A bit of a different post today!  I thought it was about time I talked about my obsession with candles!  Specifically yankee candles, because I find that they have the best smell pay off - with a lot of cheaper candles not smelling like anything at all!

My latest purchase was the Strawberry Buttercream large 2 wick tumbler.  Normally this would be £19.15 but I got it for £13.50 in a sale!  Which if you know yankee candles that's a steal for a candle that size.

Essie Peach Daiquiri

Thursday 26 July 2012

Hello Lovelies!

Quite a few posts ago now, I talked about Essie Buy Me A Cameo which you can see here.  And in this post I mentioned getting two nail varnishes!  Peach Daiquiri was the other one I got.

It's a gorgeous bright coral-red colour - which I found a little bit confusing, because peaches are...peach.  So me being me I googled Peach Daiquiri's wondering if that's the colour the cocktail is but nope! They're still a peach colour!  Anyway, regardless of me thinking it's weirdly named, I love the colour!  It's definitely a summer nail colour!

Essie Peach Daiquiri - £7.99

I used two coats to get a completely opaque colour - but you could definitely get away with one coat of this. It's just a habit for me to do two coats!  Also if you're looking for the perfect nail and lip combo, this is exactly the same shade as the YSL Rouge Volupte lipstick in Rose Culte.  And it's also exactly the same as one of the sleek lipsticks, but I don't know what that one is called!

Here's a Strawberry & Peach Daiquiri on me! (this colour is more like it!)

MAC Dazzleglass - Bare Necessity

Wednesday 25 July 2012

Hey Lovelies!

Aaages ago I decided that I ought to try some of the MAC lipglosses because, they were just about the only product of theirs I'd never tried.  I'm not big on lipglosses anyway, but I'm trying to get into them more.  I've decided that I probably like lipstick more because Scotland is so windy all of the time, and it saves from getting hair stuck to you lips!

Anyway, I decided on a dazzleglass because I just thought it looked so beautiful in the tube.  I chose Bare Necessity, which is described as an 'apricot colour with red and gold pearl'.  It looks quite orange in the tube but after swatching it it's a lot more sheer, which I like, as I wasn't looking for orange glittery lips!  The glitter in this is gold, so it gives warmth to the colour which is lovely!
MAC Dazzleglass - £17.00

Estee Lauder Day Wear - Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant Creme

Tuesday 24 July 2012

Hello Lovelies!

Probably about a month and a half ago now, I made a little purchase at Estee Lauder and they had an amazing free gift on, with some really decent sized samples.  It came with a cleanser, moisturiser, mascara, lipstick, eyeshadow palette, and a small sample of advanced night repair.  Unfortunately the eyeshadows were damaged which I didn't realise until I got home, so that got binned!  And I gave the lipstick and mascara to my mum because she never treats herself to nice makeup, and I've got enough lipsticks!

So I kept the 3 skin care products for myself, the first I'm reviewing is the moisturiser.  It came in a 15ml sample - which is pretty damn good for a moisturiser.  I always use a tiny amount anyway because I'm scared of adding in extra grease to my skin, so this lasted me a full month, using it every morning, and sometimes at night if I felt I needed it.  This was also for combination skin, so it's probably less rich than the one for dry skin!

Clarisonic Mia

Monday 23 July 2012

Hello Lovelies!

A couple of months ago, I was lucky enough to get a Clarisonic Mia.   BUT! I didn't pay the full and scary price tag of £120, I got it from buya-powa for £90.  If you haven't heard of that site before I'd check it out - it gives you the opportunity to get a lot of high-end beauty products with some money off!

The one that was on offer was the Lilac Mia - which I was thrilled about because any shade of purple is my favourite colour!  I've left it a reasonable amount of time so that my skin can get used to it, before I gave a proper review - otherwise what would be the point in that?

I have to say that, I think the hype about these is right, although I think that if the originial RRP is what I paid it would be better.
My skin hasn't been in such good condition in I don't know how long.  It removes the top layer of dead skin cells and allows your beauty products to soak in and get to work.  I have pretty tough skin, so I use this every night, although those with sensitive/dry skin may find that that's too much.  When I started using it I used it to remove my makeup with cleanser but then I started to worry that I was pushing makeup into fresh skin (which I probably wasn't because you're supposed to be able to use it to remove makeup but that's just the way my mind works!).  So firstly I remove my makeup then give it an extra cleanse using this.

Liebster Award

Sunday 22 July 2012

Hello Lovelies!

So the lovely Beau Maquillage has nominated me for the Liebster Award! :) so thank you to her!  Here's a link to her blog, if you haven't checked that out.

Here are the rules:
1. Each person must post 11 random facts about themselves.
2. Answer the questions the tagger has set for you and make 11 new questions for the people you tag.
3. Choose people with 200 followers or less and tag them in your post.
4. Go to their page and tell them
5. No tag backs!

11 Random Facts About Me!
  1. I am only 5ft. 1in!
  2. I am a massive Harry Potter fan, and I almost hyperventilated and cried when I went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Florida last summer.
  3. I love to look after people, which I think is one of the things that made me go into nursing.
  4. I have started to collect Disney DVDs so that in the future my children can love them as much as I do - so far I have 24 and I have them in order of release date on my DVD stand.
  5. ...I can have slight OCD tendencies, but more about order and organisation than things always being clean (being afraid of germs would be quite impossible, especially in nursing!)
  6. As much as I love my friends and to go out with them and do stuff, I really enjoy my own company.
  7. I have a house rabbit called Phoebe (after Phoebe from Charmed and from Friends) and a Cat called Miley (after Miley Cyrus).
  8. I absolutely love Audrey Hepburn, I think she was one of the originally gorgeous women of Hollywood.  My favourite film of hers is Sabrina.
  9. When I was still in school I used to do musical theatre classes part time.
  10. I was bullied for a year in school when I was 14, which made me quite overweight for a couple of years from stress/comfort eating- which people find hard to believe when they meet me now.
  11. I left school when I was 15 and done art for a year at college, but then went back when I was 16 when I realised that wasn't what I wanted to do.  Even though I am pretty good!
Shameless drawing plug....

Kim Kardashian - True Reflection

Hello Lovelies!

I recently purchased Kim Kardashian's newest fragrance.  It's definitely not a fragrance I would usually go for, my favourites being Miss Dior, Coco Mademoiselle and Daisy au so Fresh; but I was definitely intrigued by this one.  It's a more sophisticated scent compared to my usual girly ones.

When first applied you can smell all of the fruity elements, which I love as it's refreshing!  And then it settles into the rich chocolate floral scent - it smells very classy and luxurious.  I would also say that this is more of an evening scent!

Chanel Rouge Coco Hydrating Creme Lip Colour - 38 Superstition

Thursday 19 July 2012

Hello Lovelies!

A while ago, I was having a bit of an endeavour trying to find a neutral lipstick that suited me.  I found that a lot of them were far too peach toned, and really just looked like 'foundation lips'.  Which I absolutely HATE *shudders*.   Anyway I was having a good look around the Chanel counter in boots when I found this one.  I swatched it and noticed a difference from the others straight away.  It was slightly darker, slightly more sheer and it had pinkish undertones!  I was sold, because before getting this I didn't have a neutral lip that I could wear every day, if I wanted to.
It comes with the signature Chanel lipstick packaging - black with the gold band.  Which I love, I have a bit of a love for all of the Chanel packaging, it's always so sleek!

Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick - £23.00 (now £24.00 :( )

Benefit Thrrrob Box Powder Blush

Sunday 15 July 2012

Hello Lovelies!

I thought I'd do a quick little review of the first and only Benefit boxed blush I purchased.  I'll be honest and say it didn't amaze me so much that I thought I HAD to have another colour, but it may just be the one that I chose isn't as good as others.
What attracted me to this blush was the firstly the box, I love the design of the packaging - and I didn't own a pale dusty pink blush either! The powder has a very fine shimmer through it, which you can't even see when you apply it to your cheeks.  I'm not a fan of overly shimmery blushes myself anyway; but why have it in a blush if you can't see it all?  I like the colour when it's applied, but as there isn't a lot of colour pay off you need to use a LOT of it.  Also I'm not a fan of the brush because it just seems to absorb so much of the product.

Illamasqua Cream Blush - Lies

Saturday 7 July 2012

Hello my lovelies!

I bought this a couple of months ago, and I've been loving it!  It's from the Illamasqua Cream Blush line, but it's more of a cream highlighter.  If you look at it on the Illamasqua website here, you can kind of see that's what it's intended for, as I think it's far too pale and there isn't a genuine colour pay off with it either!  As it was a highlighter I wanted I'm happy with this product.
For all photo's I took one with and without flash.

Makeup and Skincare haul! feat. Chanel and Origins

Friday 6 July 2012

Hello Lovelies!

This is part two of my recent shopping trip, featuring the makeup and skincare I bought!

Firstly I knew I needed a new moisturiser as the one I had only has 1-2 uses left.  So I decided to buy an origins one because I have and love their Ginzing eye cream.  I decided to go for the Dr Weil Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief.  My skin is a very annoying combination if I'm being honest.  It's really oily in places, and really dry in places, I break out easily and it takes FOREVER for red marks and sensitive spots to clear up.  So this seemed like the perfect option as it's soothing to irritated skin and very moisturising.  The only thing is, it's really expensive, so it better be worth it or I wont be a happy lady!
 £46.00 - 50ml

Clothes Haul! Feat. Gap and H&M

Hello Lovelies!

If you follow me on twitter you'll have already seen that I went shopping today and bought some clothes and *makeup*coming in next post*; and spent a ridiculous amount of money.

But I thought I'd show you what I bought, starting on a post with the clothes.

First I went to H&M (my favourite shop!) to pick up a shirt I'd seen the last few times I'd been in.  The entire shop had been rearranged and I thought they didn't have it anymore but then I found it, yay! I already had it in mint green and pale pink with a flowered pattern so I knew that I liked the style.

Natural Barely There Makeup

Thursday 5 July 2012

Hello Lovelies,

This is just a quick post on my everyday natural makeup.  I tend to wear this if I'm going to placement, where it's not entirely appropriate to wear full on makeup.  A lot of nurses don't wear makeup at all but, if I don't I look like I should be in a bed next to my patients.  So really it's just to take away the darkness around my eyes and to even my skin tone!

What I'm wearing:
Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser - Bisque
Clinique airbrush concealer - 04 Neutral Fair (under eyes)
MAC studio finish concealer - NW25 (blemishes)
Chanel Joues Contraste Blush - 54 Rose Dust
MAC paintpot - Bare Study
Chanel Le Crayon Khol - 69 Clair (waterline)
Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara - Blackened Brown
Benefit Brow Zings - Dark (wax only)
Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream lipbalm

Shu Uemura Eye Lash Curlers

Hello Lovelies!

Recently I bought the forever hyped Shu Uemura eyelash curlers.

I like them, they're good, they make a curl stay well.  This is all down to the design of the curler.  Most cheap curlers - like ones you can buy for £3.00 have thick metal and the sponge part is usually pretty soft.  And that's why they don't work well.  The metal isn't thin enough to create a discernible curl and as you can't get a decent amount of pressure or force from the sponge, so nothing happens.

OOTN - Friends' 21st Birthday Series - 2

Sunday 1 July 2012

Hello Lovelies!

Last week it was another of my friends 21st birthdays (there's a lot during the summer!).  And I forgot to take photos before I left the house of my outfit and my make-up.  But since photos were taken during the night out I thought I would just use those instead.  So not fantastic photography, but I hope you don't mind!  I kept my look pretty simple - I wasn't feeling the whole OTT fake eyelashes/heavy makeup/beautiful but not really functional dress thing that day so I didn't do it :)

Essie Buy Me A Cameo

Hey Lovelies!

This is my second Essie nail polish, which I bought because I loved my first one so much!  And I got Boots vouchers that we're two Essie nail polishes for £12.00, so I couldn't not buy more! (the other colour I bought along with this will be in another post soon!).

Buy Me A Cameo is a gorgeous pearlescent neutral colour - which I LOVE!  In the little pot it almost looks bronze, but when worn it is definitely more of a rose gold (which made me about 10 times more excited about it!).  I haven't been disappointed with my first two Essie nail polishes, they just have such a beautiful finish!
Buy Me A Cameo - £7.99 from Boots

My Rose Gold Mae Movement bracelets match it perfectly, so that's what made me decide it's rose gold!  I love this colour, I think it's my new favourite! :)
