The 'Get To Know Me' Tag

Hello Lovelies!

I wanted to get a post published today, so I thought I would do this one for you! I have several makeup ones already written but no photos to go with them yet, and I'm trying to give my skin a rest from makeup as I have a few spots I'm trying to clear up - so you will be able to see them soon!

I have read the 'Get To Know Me' tag on a few other blogs and thought it was a lovely way of letting readers know more about the person behind the blog.  I thought it would be nice to do it too, so I'm just going to go ahead and get started!

My Proactiv Experience

Monday 27 August 2012

Hello Lovelies,

I purchased proactiv from Boots about 6 months ago now, to try and clear up my skin as I'd been having problems with it.  I gave it a fair trial, cutting out all other skincare in order to solve the outbreak I'd had.  My skin tends to do that, it goes in waves of being really bad, to being pretty good.  And I was at a bad stage.

I had spots that were taking ages to heal and then just as I thought they were getting better, more would come.  It was a nightmare.  I stuck to the regime of using only these products morning and night, but I didn't see any results very quickly.  I persevered as, hopefully, most of you know it can take up to three months for a skin product to show results.  Within a couple of weeks my skin had shown a massive improvement and my skin was staying clear of spots for weeks.  I thought I had found my miracle.

Health Myth No. 1 - Thou Must Drink 2 Litres of Water a Day

Sunday 26 August 2012

Hello Lovelies!

Having always been a bit obsessed with beauty, I've been an avid reader of magazines, and more recently in my life, blogs.  I since then I have obviously started my own.  I wanted to write about something that bugs the life right out of me though.  And that is the "These things are what you should do to be beautiful, blah blah blah" magazine "facts" and these things are also I have noticed, been in blog posts.  I myself believed these things when I was younger, but having studied nursing at university, and done some proper research on these matters for a variety of reasons, such as needing to know for assignments or just genuine interest, a lot of what you're reading is false information!

I thought I would start with the 'you must drink 2 litres of water a day' "fact".  This is 100% completely and utterly wrong.  Think for a moment if you will, that it is one of the weeks you have decided that you're going to be completely healthy.  So out goes the fizzy drinks, tea, coffee etc., and you tell yourself, you WILL drink your "recommended" two litres of water a day.  But it hits about mid-afternoon, and the thought of forcing yourself to drink more water literally makes you gag.  Every time you move your stomach turns over and makes that god awful sloshing sound as all the water you have drank shifts.  And completely on the other hand, you may be so thirsty because you've already drank your allowance.

This is because the amount of water your body requires is affected by a multitude of factors.  Depending on any pre-existing medical conditions and something as simple as height, can affect the amount of water you're required to drink.  Also, environmental temperatures and exercise are huge factors in determining the amount of water you should drink, or what your body needs.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer - Mineral

Saturday 25 August 2012

Hello Lovelies!

Probably about 6 months ago now, I purchased my first Laura Mercier makeup.  I bought the mineral powder foundation, the secret camouflage concealer, the oil free tinted moisturiser and the mineral primer.  Laura Mercier is famous for being the pioneer of primers so I was dying to try one.  I had thought I would get the one for oily skin, but after my consultation with the woman at my counter, she advised the mineral primer - particularly because I wanted to buy the mineral powder and that they work very well together.

The mineral powder is oil-free anyway so I wasn't too worried that it would interact with my skin, turning me into a big grease monkey.  And it didn't, this primer has a satin soft finish and I just love how it makes my skin feel.  I've also noticed that my mineral powder goes on much better and lasts longer with it which is a plus. My skin also lasts much longer before getting greasy again and I can go hours and hours before I start to get shiny.

FOTD - Shopping for a Birthday Gift

Thursday 23 August 2012

Hi Lovelies!

Just a quick FOTD post today guys :)

What I'm Wearing:

Pizza Toast - A Healthy Low Calorie Lunch

Hello Lovelies,

The other day I made this little snack for my lunch and put the photo on instagram, and it seemed to be quite popular.  It's really, really easy to make so I thought I'd share what I done!  I'm going to define the calories as Weight Watchers points as that's the diet I followed (and am now following again after a couple of months break).

Estee Lauder - Advanced Night Repair

Wednesday 22 August 2012

Hello Lovelies!

A few months ago now, I bought Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair.  I'd read and heard a lot about it before parting with my money as it does have a hefty price tag.  I bought the 30ml, which you can buy for £44.00 (the 50ml is £58.00!), and it has lasted me absolutely ages!  So that's the bonus, that comes with parting with all that money, it'll be a while before you need to part with it again, because by god you'll want to!

I was slightly sceptical about this product, as it claimed to repair and improve blemishes and pigmentation.  And being someone that has suffered from that for many years, I was starting to think that I'd be stuck with my skin like that.  But this truly is a miracle product for me.  A lot of pigmentation that I have had for years is gone, and newer pigmentation scars improve so quickly.  I've noticed that my spots are healing a lot quicker too, although I would definitely not say that this stops them coming.  So don't expect to never have spots again if you use it - it only 'repairs' them.

30ml - £44.00

The loveliest of Mothers and Sisters (who buy me rose gold things)

Tuesday 21 August 2012

Hello Lovelies!

A couple of Mondays ago (13/08) I was I my bed all day, endeavouring to get a sleep as I was about to start my first of my final 3 night shifts of my final placement...not entirely sure that makes sense, but moving on...

My Mum and my sister went into Glasgow for the day and they picked me up a couple of pieces of jewellery (and brought me home a peach iced tea from Costa, yum!). And no surprises here...they were both rose gold! (and snore! I'm talking about rose gold AGAIN).

Firstly they were in Debenhams and went to the little Topshop section there and found this necklace. It's a two chain necklace that has two different lengths and each chain has a cross on it. I'm not religious at all, nor am I anti-religion, so if I'm wearing cross jewellery it's generally just because I think it looks nice; and as that's generally the purpose of these kinds of pieces from fashion shops. I love it and I can't wait to wear it - I think it will look super edgy - or rather edgy for me as I'm usually all frills and bows and pink things.

NYX Mini Haul!

Monday 20 August 2012

Hi Lovelies!

For ages now I've been dying to get my hands on some NYX products. But as most of you may know, you can't pick them up in any shops in the UK.

So I looked into getting some and thought I'd either have to get some on eBay (with not always reputable sellers) or amazon (where I've had trouble in the past with shoddy sellers - cut to me trying to buy Beauty and The Beast on DVD, and being sent a VHS video...which I already had). They also wouldn't take it back even though they'd false advertised, so I wasn't pleased!

Anyway that was completely off topic, but you get what I'm talking about! I was however very happy to discover that they have a UK based website, and that's where I ordered them from. I bought three things, two of which I'd been dying to try and he third I just liked it at the time!

House of Fraser - Blogger Style Challenge

Sunday 19 August 2012

Hello Lovelies!

Until the 10th of September, House of Fraser is running a competition in which bloggers can WIN £200 worth of HOF vouchers by putting together a look from their new season collections.

Below is the look I have put together:

NARS Highlighting Powder - Albatross

Hello Lovelies!

Now, I'm sure every beauty blogger/makeup fanatic and their dog has heard of NARS Albatross highlighter. And as it has been part of he NARS makeup collection for, like, ever, there will be an abundance of blog posts about it. But, one more cant hurt, right?

This was my first ever "proper" highlighter. Before that I completely stayed away from all forms of highlighting and attempts to look "glowy" as I have greasy skin and was obsessed with looking matte. Obviously I have since realised that glowing and greasy are a different thing, so yay me!

Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush - 54 Rose Dust

Saturday 18 August 2012

Hello Lovelies!

I wanted to do a quick post on this blush, because I've featured it in a couple of my 'What I'm Wearing', 'FOTD' and 'MOTD' posts.  I'll start off with the bad news, this colour is discontinued - basically because I've had it for about 4 years + (this product being my first EVER high end beauty purchase).  However, it looks almost identical to Rose Ecrin from the current line of Joues Contraste blushes.
Signature Chanel Packaging

Most of you will probably be thinking that it's gross that I still have this and surely it must be due for the bin.  But it's still as perfect as the day I got it.  It hasn't turned a funny colour and the smell hasn't changed, and most importantly it doesn't affect my skin when I use it.  Also, considering these blushes now retail for £31.00 it would be pretty ridiculous to get rid of it at this point.  I'm positive that I didn't buy it in the first place for that price but I have no idea what I did pay for it!

Pin Me Up!

Thursday 16 August 2012

Hello Lovelies!

I was bored on Sunday afternoon and I decided to have a play around with some makeup - as you do!  I decided to do a classic pin up look and do my hair to the same style and I decided to show how different the exact same base and eye can look just when you change your lip colour.  I chose to stick with four colours and they're all from MAC - they're my favourite lipsticks!

Home Made Makeup Containers - Inspiried by Miss Glamorazzi!

Wednesday 15 August 2012

Hello Lovelies!

A few times I've mentioned this lovely lady Miss Glamorazzi to you guys, and she is definitely one of my favourite beauty youtubers and vloggers - you should check out her channel here if you haven't watched her before!  She's literally one of the sweetest girls on youtube and I love to watch her videos!

Any way around a month ago she started a new series on her channel Glam It Yourself, and this was from the first video in that series.  Basically she shows you how to take old glass candle containers and turn them into cute, stylish storage for your make-up brushes - or anything else that you feel like!

MAC Eyeshadow - Expensive Pink

Tuesday 14 August 2012

Hey Lovelies!

I thought I would start to do posts on all of my MAC eyeshadows, because I have a lot of them!  I own two of the 15 pro-palettes, one of which has neutrals and the other has bright and dramatic colours.  I also have the 6 pro-blush palette which currently has 5 blushes in it, so I'll probably get to doing posts about them too at some point!

Any way on to the first colour! I decided to start with Expensive Pink as it is definitely one of my all time favourite colours (and it's from the colour palette, by the way!).  It is the most gorgeous mid-tone warm pink, with gorgeous gold pearl - almost a rose gold I would say, so I wonder why I love it?! *note sarcasm as I'm completely obsessed with rose gold!

Essie - Not Just A Pretty Face

Monday 13 August 2012

Hello Lovelies!

Another Essie nail varnish for you guys!  Been really loving Essie since it became available in Boots in the UK and this is my 4th colour!  I had intended to buy a full on pink or red from Essie, but when I got there I was holding Fifth Avenue in one hand (which is a beautiful red colour) and Watermelon in the other (a gorgeous purple toned deep pink) and I couldn't decide between them.  But then I didn't have to!  I seen this one out of the corner of my eye and was immediately drawn to it.  While I do love bright nail varnish, I have been more attracted to neutrals lately.  I already own a beige toned nude, but I loved this because it's a pink toned nude.  It just really polishes up your nails and makes them look neat and clean which I love!  I would say however that it is slightly more pink than what the camera has picked up, but I did try several photos in different lighting and this was as close as I could possibly get it.  Absolutely love it!!

Available from Boots for £7.99

OOTN - Friends 21st Birthday Series - 3

Hello Lovelies!

This post is long overdue considering this night out was at the end of June!...oops!  Anyway this time it was my friend Laura's 21st.  She had an area of Vodka Revolution booked out for her birthday and then after that we went to a club; and Vodka Revolution is basically a bar that specialises in every kind of vodka you could ever think of - just in case you were wondering!

Not the best picture but you can see the dress which is what I wanted to show!

MAC Tinted Lipglass - Pink Lemonade

Sunday 12 August 2012

Hello Lovelies!

I bought this lipgloss about a month ago now, and I have to say that I've been loving it!  I was first introduced to the shade through watching Ingrid, or Miss Glamorazzi's youtube channel.  She featured this lipgloss a few times and it was in a favourites video too a while back.
MAC Tinted Lipglass in Pink Lemonade - £13.50

My "Weighty" Battle

Saturday 11 August 2012

Hello Lovelies!

This is a very personal post for me, and I would appreciate if any negative views could be kept to yourself, thank you.  I decided that I was going to open up a little bit to everyone today and talk about the problems I've had with my weight in the past and what contributed to these issues.

I went through a hard time in school and was bullied by a group of girls in my year.  They were pretty crafty, and only done it when no one else was there, or in classes I had that none of my friends were in.  I went through a lot of name calling and nastiness - such as them stealing my things or spitting on me or in my school bag.  I didn't tell anyone about it for a long time and it just really got me down, but I always tried to keep the false happy exterior towards my family and friends.  I'll be honest and say that I was a little embarrassed that I was letting these girls get to me, because in all honestly they were just pathetic and immature, singling me out because I always had got on well with everyone and had been pretty out-going.  Before it all happened I'd took part in school shows and was always talking to people, regardless of their social circle - I didn't really fit into a particular one myself managing to get on with everyone, except from these girls, who always had a scathing comment to say about anything I was doing.

I have a very 'blame myself for everything' personality, which is why I think it affected me so much.  Most of the time I was racking my brain wondering what I could've possibly done to these girls to make them hate me so much.  And through growing up and overcoming this point in my life, I have learned that I can't make every one be nice to me, even if I am nice to them.  There is always going to be someone somewhere that doesn't like the way you look, doesn't like what you have to say, thinks you're stupid etc.  It's just all about brushing these people off and focusing on the people that love you, whoever they may be.

Estee Lauder Perfectly Clean Splash Away Foaming Cleanser forNormal/Combination Skin

Hello Lovelies!

A few posts back when I reviewed the Estee Lauder moisturiser here, I mentioned that I got a gift with purchase a little while ago that had pretty decent sized testers in it; the cleanser was 30ml.  I've completely used up the moisturiser and now the cleanser so I thought I'd give my views on the product.

Firstly, I love the look and smell of the cleanser.  It almost looks shimmery, but there is definitely no glitter flakes in it, it is not in any way, shape or form an exfoliator.  And it has a very fresh clean scent, which isn't overpowering.  Fresh smells are always good when you're cleaning and refreshing your skin, as I'm not a fan of overly floral scents in face washes.

A little bit really goes a long way too, which is why I think it lasted me so long.  And don't underestimate the 'foaming' part of the description of this product - use any more than a 10p size for your whole face and you'll be able to make a foam Santa beard, like you did in a bubble bath when you were little (don't deny it, I know you did it too!).

What I'm wearing - Going for a Nandos!

Tuesday 7 August 2012

Hello Lovelies!

Just a quick 'What I'm Wearing' post for you guys!

July 2012 Favourites

Saturday 4 August 2012

Hey Lovelies!

I haven't done a favourites post before, because I'm not really aware of what products I'm using most throughout the month, but this time I made sure I was paying attention!

I'm going to break it into categories so that my post isn't over run with products!

SKINCARE
Body: My favourite body product of the month has been one that I've rediscovered.  I bought 3 bottles of it ages ago because it was in a deal, and I completely forgot about it!  It's the Veet Hair Minimising Body Moisturiser.  Now I wouldn't say it's a fantastic, luxury moisturiser; but it's fantastic at reducing the hair if you use it regularly.  I can go longer inbetween shaving my legs with this which is amazing - but of course it's only when I remember to use it everyday or every second day.
£5.25 - Available here at Boots

What I'm wearing - Going to see Brave!

Hello Lovelies!

Last night I went with my mum and dad to see Brave, which was brilliant! Definitely loved all the Scottish-ness in it and it made me all patriotic haha!
